BAIP implemented separate, highly reliable data centre for Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid. The new data centre was implemented in line with EU directive requirements and will be used for data storage and transmission. The project value is 698 thousand Litas (including VAT).

According to the requirements of European Parliament and Council directive 2009/72/EB, that is implemented into Lithuanian legislation, electricity transmission operations should be separated from distribution, supply and production as well as commercial interests of those activities. Until now Litgrid used data centre services provided by Technologiju ir inovaciju centras (TIC), but had to separate its infrastructure according to the EU requirements. The public tender on the procurement of the new infrastructure implementation was announced.

BAIP proposed the best price and won the tender on data centre equipment supply and installation. The company implemented and configured new generation IBM and Cisco solutions.

“Our client acquired servers for virtualization platform that had to be connected to the elements of already existing infrastructure, so they chose reliable and flexible solution – FcoE (Fibre Channel over Ethernet), a cutting edge network technology. We are glad to make our contribution into such contemporary project,” – said Mrs Gytis Umantas, CEO at BAIP.

“Our company manages electricity flows in the whole country that is why we are putting a lot of efforts to ensure secure and continuous operations of IT systems. We chose a technology that  guarantees high level of security and provides a cost effective way to connect systems that are running on different protocols”, – said Mr Vladas Merčaitis, Head of information technology and telecommunication centre at Litgrid.

BAIP also maintains Litgrid workstations and serves more than two hundred users at Litgrid.

Litgrid is the Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator. The company maintains stable operation of the national power system, controls electricity flows, and enables competition in an open domestic electricity market. Litgrid is also responsible for integrating the national power system into the European power infrastructure and electricity market.
